Here are seven covers of Journey’s masterpiece “Don’t Stop Believin’”, one for each day of the week. Remember, they’re for evaluation purposes only; support the artists.

Badly Drawn Boy – Don’t Stop Believin’

Cast of Glee – Don’t Stop Believin’

Jon Regen – Don’t Stop Believin’

Marnie Stern – Don’t Stop Believin’

Matt Nathanson – Don’t Stop Believin’

Of Montreal – Don’t Stop Believin’

Petra Haden – Don’t Stop Believin’

I’m a huge Badly Drawn Boy fan, so I’m exceedingly partial to it, but all of the covers here are pretty strong. Jon Regen’s is the most interesting of the bunch, a jazzy take that reminds me of Marc Cohn at his best. Marnie Stern, well, I really like Marnie Stern right now, and I think the cover kicks ass. Petra Haden’s reminds me fundamentally of the spin the Glee cast puts on the song but without the bombast and theatricality that the latter has (which I’m not complaining about!). The Of Montreal one is kind of perfect because it captures the moment that is hearing a band cover “Don’t Stop Believin’” in a bar.

Notable absences: Kanye West (don’t have an mp3 of his take), Cute Kids and Northern Kings (can’t find the files).

What’s your favorite cover of the best song of all time?

I love Matt Nathanson’s version — I was at a concert (though not that one) where he covered it, and the energy in the audience was incredible.

FYI- your badly drawn boy link pulls up the Marnie Stern version
