1. Item the first: Xeric Award-winning comics creator Box Brown is crowdsourcing the funding of his new project, called Everything Dies. I like everything of Box’s that I’ve read, especially his last book Love Is A Peculiar Type of Thing. I talked to Box a little bit at SPX earlier this year and he’s a cool guy.
2. Item the Second. Sarah wrote a novella called One Con Glory that is really, really good, you guys. And I’m not just saying that in a ‘we’re friends’ way, although we are. It’s available in paperback right now, with an eBook on the horizon soon. Every so often, I have those ‘I give up’ moments as a writer, and reading through the final draft of Glory caused more than one of those. It’s amazingly economical without sacrificing humor or emotion; it blows in, does what it needs to do and then leaves while you’re still dreamy-eyed about it.
3. Item the Third. I’ve had a few friends and even a not-so-friends or two express some interest in my mysterious comic book project lately. While it’s still Too Soon to start spilling the beans about it in any deep and meaningful way other than basically acknowledging that it’s still there, it’s slowly but surely getting done. I’m on the precipice of finishing the scripting, but have been stalling and re-reading and revising more than making new stuff, a familiar trap that I fall into over and over and over again. Hopefully, Matt will knock my ass back into gear.
4. Item the Fourth. Last night, I watched the Ben Affleck as Keith Olbermann SNL sketch for the first time. Why did nobody tell me that SNL was still occasionally funny? Or am I getting SNL confused with Studio 60?
5. Item the Fifth. Now that I have The Power Of The Internet at my disposal via my cell phone, I anticipate that I will become some sort of cyber hermit or neuromancer. I am uncomfortable with this.
6. Item the Sixth. I have had Modern Warfare 2 for over a week now and still have not played it. Where are my priorities, dammit!?
