in Things I Hate

I have a few more UGC Week stragglers that I’ll be hitting today or tomorrow.

But right now, I have some Important News to share.

My iPod successfully synced with my laptop yesterday afternoon.

Most of you might not think this is a big deal. You have iPods and laptops and they connect with each other maybe once a day in your world.

At some point in late July, my iPod stopped talking to my lappy, however. Which meant that, for months and months and months, I couldn’t actually update the whole thing.  Something like five gigs of music sat languishing in anonymity while I went through various stages of coping, including anger, rage, exasperation, exhaustion and futility, a cycle that repeated itself about three times.

But I finally conquered Apple.  Fuck you, Steve Jobs.

What was the problem? Well, it’s largely that – depending on your perspective – I’m dumb.

I lost the Official Apple iPod Touch Dock Connector Cable right around the time I moved everything over to the new laptop, and not feeling like spending twenty-plus dollars on a USB cable (which would cost me a fifth of that if it weren’t for the 30-pin connector on one end, I tried to use the cable from my iPod’s car charger. In all my months of running diagnostics and troubleshooting, it did not occur to me that the problem was that they still make charge-only USB cables.  So yes, for several months, I have been vocal about my vehement hate toward my iPod and the whole time I was using the wrong cable.

In related news, it seems I shouldn’t have tried using sugar as a fuel additive in my car.
